No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player in the world by most of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of one. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.
He started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated a number of the well known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an undying love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a normal basis.
