Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he liked participating in numerous card games at a young age. He found himself getting very competitive in these card games while playing his dad. After graduating from high school, Howard decided to put college on hold for a little bit and moved away to New York City to participate in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s 1st 2 years were rough as he would play many hours and do not win most times. He earned some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker players. He believed he could boost his game by analyzing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus attention more on the game.
The real advancement in his abilities happened when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the the most favorable players would regularly play against each other. Howard had access into a few of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would hone his logical thinking techniques. He used these strategic ideas in the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
He also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct choice. Howard told Annie to head out to Sin City and play in the World Series of Poker competition. Annie is one of the greatest women players the poker arena ever. Howard Lederer headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
