Howard Lederer grew up in a family of five where he liked taking part in various card games at a young age. He found himself becoming very competitive in these card games as he was competing against his dad. After finishing high school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York to play some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first two years were difficult as he played countless hours and lost most times. He made some additional money by being an runner for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he might improve his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an attempt to acquire more sleep and focus attention more on poker.

The definite improvement in his abilities began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the best players would often challenge each other. Howard had access into some of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would sharpen his cunning thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sibling Annie Duke learn poker. She was an excellent student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to move out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP tournaments. Annie is one of the strongest women players the poker arena today. He headed to Las Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and played money games for the next decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, he made the decision to compete in more tournaments.
