No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to discover anything he could about poker. Phil routinely would tell his grandparents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the detrimental feedback from others kill his dream of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing intently after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his game at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made two final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing love for poker. Phil says that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his success. He admits to making errors every single game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
