NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t allow the detrimental feedback from others annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker competitors in the world.
He began playing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he made two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and moved out west to Las Vegas. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his accomplishments. He knows he makes mistakes in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
