Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he possibly could about the game. He routinely told his elders that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed many of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
