Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to New Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to discover whatever he could about poker. He routinely told his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the negative comments from other people kill his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker competitors on the planet.

He began playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and came away with his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed quite a few of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and a continuing passion for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every single day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
