No-Limit Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker contender on the planet by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa showed him to penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he was going to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the detrimental comments from others annihilate his dream of being one of the greatest poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win wasn’t a normal outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He states that he is learning every day and is quite abashed about his achievements. Phil admits to making mistakes every single session of poker and always aspires to get better.
Even though Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a normal basis.
