No-Limit Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?
Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker competitor on the planet by most of the top pros. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was going to be a professional poker player. Phil did not allow the adverse feedback from others kill his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker players in the world.
He began playing intently after getting a false ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his techniques at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the last table he destroyed quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he is picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders every single session of poker and constantly strives to improve.
Although Phil has won some big tournaments, he favors winning cash games on a regular basis.
