Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complex but popular poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the main reason why a once irrelevant variation, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to each player. A sequence of wagering ensues in which players can bet, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is known as the flop. Another sequence of wagering happens. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, another card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering follows at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low five card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where many entrants often get flustered. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize exactly 3 cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. No more, not a single card less. Unlike normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It’s the strongest hand out of everyone’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house, etc. It is the identical notion in nearly every poker game.

A lower hand is more complicated, but certainly free’s up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that can be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Since straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand wins half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there is no low hand available, the high hand wins the whole pot.

It may seem complex at the outset, after a couple of hands you will be agile enough to get the fundamental subtleties of play with ease. Seeing as you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and seeing as such a large number of cards are in play, Omaha hi/low provides an overwhelming collection of wagering choices and because you have several players battling for the high, as well as a few battling for the low. If you like a game with a plethora of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha High-Low.
