Phil Ivey has been referred to as the best poker competitor in the world by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather showed him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was hooked on poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the adverse comments from others destroy his goal of being one of the best poker competitors in the world.

He started playing intently after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his techniques at the casinos in Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for Phil were a teaching period and winning wasn’t a regular thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is very humble about his success. He knows he makes blunders in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
