Web High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen enjoyed a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only participant to make it to the last poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He won a massive pot with quads against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best players in the world. While gambling on web poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the familiar players at 200/400NL. Unless he is flat broke, he has absolutely no reason to settle at the table with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be 1 of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the total amount. I believe tv can alter our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world could be guys you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen playing web poker on Full Tilt. He generally plays in big stakes omaha/8 and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his talents in money games?
