Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly viewed as one of the most complicated but well-loved poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites play from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.

Omaha/8 starts exactly like a regular game of Omaha. 4 cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows where players can wager, check, or fold. 3 cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. Another sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have either called or folded, a further card is flipped on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering happens at which point the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.

This is the point where a number of players can get flustered. Contrasted to Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as does the high hand. When there’s no low hand presented, the high hand wins the whole pot.

While it seems difficult initially, after a couple of hands you will be able to pick up on the fundamental nuances of the game easily enough. Since you have individuals betting for the low and betting for the high, and seeing as so many cards are being used at the same time, Omaha/8 provides an amazing collection of wagering possibilities and because you have numerous individuals trying for the high hand, and several battling for the low.
