Phil Ivey has been referred to as the greatest poker player on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to NJ before reaching the age of 1. His grandfather introduced him to penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was hooked on poker and wished to pickup whatever he could about poker. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil didn’t permit the detrimental comments from other people annihilate his goal of being one of the greatest poker players on the planet.

Phil began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial few years for him were a teaching opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a regular thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his success to hard work and a continuing love for the game of poker. Phil states that he’s picking up skills every single day and is quite humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a normal basis.
